Exercise 7 Digital Story presentation

Exercise #7 Digital Story

Poverty

Video (YouTube)

Introduction:

First of all do you know how many children dies because of Poverty and how many kids working to get some money or food.
Hi today I will talk about poverty around the world and what the benefits and Disadvantages and how its effect poor kids because of working.

History of Poverty:

Poverty is in ascendency as a policy issue – but it has not always been that way. This column, based on the author’s “The Idea of Antipoverty Policy”, recounts how mainstream thinking until well into the 19th century saw little scope for fighting widespread chronic poverty. The revolution came with a deeper understanding of how market and governmental failures interact with inequality to both perpetuate poverty and retard development more broadly. New policies for fighting poverty emerged and now extreme absolute poverty is at an historic low. History suggests, however, that continued progress is not assured.

Kinds of poverty:

Absolute Poverty:
Absolute poverty refers to a condition where a person does not have the minimum amount of income needed to meet the minimum requirements for one or more basic living needs over an extended period of time. This includes things like. Food , Health , safe water to drink

Relative poverty:
Relative poverty is the condition in which people lack the minimum amount of income needed in order to maintain the average standard of living in the society in which they live. Relative poverty is considered the easiest way to measure the level of poverty in an individual country.

Benefits of Poverty:

When addressing the issue of Poverty, I think we have to look at who benefits from Poverty. And the fact is the wealthy folks benefit from Poverty – The problem is not so much poverty – the problem is wealth, prosperity and when it is taken into an extreme, that wealth is used as the measure of value in a culture, which is what is happening in our culture. We judge ourselves, our societies and people by how much wealth they have. In order to have wealth – you have to have the majority of the population to act as slaves"  Thus we have to stop this idea of wealth as value - so we can stop poverty.

Disadvantages of Poverty:

Just like there are advantages, there are many disadvantages of being poor.
You can become dependent on the help you receive. Most of the help uses an income range as a criteria of people they are willing to help. If your income is close to the outside range, it may be scary to try to increase your income, because you know you will stop getting help, and sometimes the amount of help you are receiving is greater than the initial increase in income.
Some people will look down on you because you are poor. They may think you are lazy, fat, or stupid. Many people feel shame when they are poor.
When you are poor, you may forgo nutrition for calories just to save money. By eating a lot of starches, you may gain weight. You may also have medical issues that are unresolved because you cannot afford to go to the doctor for preventative checkups.

True story:

These players in South Sudan told Stanton: “Our team is called the Young Boys. We grew up in this neighborhood, so we wanted to give the local kids something to do after school. We bought them balls and shoes with our own money, and for game days, we go around and beg local churches for a place to play. We want to keep them very busy so they don’t have time for bad things. We don’t want to see anyone on our team wandering the streets. We practice every other day. The girls have their practice on our days off.”

Conclusion:

Nobody prays to be poor because it is dangerous and risky to be poor. Poor people are regarded as nobody in the society and people prefer being recognized and respected.
